The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! I’ve got to say, we absolutely love the way this home turned out! We hope you enjoy our tour. You walk into an open floor plan with the living room to the left and the dining room to the right. That light though…it looks perfect in this space! We chose a hand painted glass subway tile for the kitchen backsplash to complement the light blue cabinets and granite countertops. I really couldn’t wait to see how the laundry room tile would turn out. I was completely ” floored ” when I saw it. Did you see what I did there? Seriously though, it’s so fun and I just love it! Let’s venture down the hallway. We’ve got two closets mirroring each other. They both have custom shelving. Then there is a full bathroom and two bedrooms with custom closet shelving as well. I love the light fixtures in these rooms too! Last but not least, we have the master bedroom with a five piece en-suite master bathroom and walk in closet with, you guessed it, custom shelving. We chose a gorgeous gray tile for the floor and the wall behind the tub. To accent, we chose a Tiffany mosaic tile. We also felt that a free standing tub would give this bathroom the spa like feel we were looking for. It looks so inviting, doesn’t it? Outside, we’ve got a new driveway and patio, along with a deck off of the master bedroom. We hope this house makes someone really happy! Now for the fun part! It’s time to pick out paint colors, tile, floor coverings, light fixtures, cabinets, countertops, doors, trim, knobs…are you feeling overwhelmed yet? Not only is there a lot to think about, but the options are endless! We’ve had months of daydreaming trying to decide between the perfect blend of trendy yet timeless. I have always been obsessed with light fixtures. The one thing I knew I wanted for sure was the Hundi Metal Glass pendent from Pottery Barn for the dining room. Do you remember the Kohler commercial when the woman set a bathroom sink faucet on the table and said, “Design a house around this.” That’s how I feel about this light. I figure it must be pretty timeless because they’ve been selling it for years now. I also knew that I wanted a fun black and white tile for the laundry room. I absolutely love blue, gray and white paint colors, hard wood flooring and granite countertops. Here’s a glimpse of some our color choices. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out! What’s the saying? All great beauty’s must endure some pain or is it, no pain no gain? However it goes, this was was definitely the awkward looking phase of our little project. It’s been a lot of work but we finally got the inside of the house all cleaned out and now it’s time to start giving our project some of the new features we’ve been dreaming about. We’re adding a new attached two car garage, new windows and a new roof. We’ve also taken out the front stoop in order to give our house a fresh new look! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It won’t be long until this little dream house of ours becomes a reality!
South Dakota became a state on November 2, 1889. When we discovered a newspaper, that insulated the walls, date back to June 25, 1899 we were pretty excited! We tried to salvage as much as we could. We kept hoping to find something more valuable, but no such luck. However, we did find some fun facts! Did you know, that dotted veils viciously irritates the eyes. Choose a plain, honest veil to wear in blustery weather. Your eyes will thank you. To test eggs, drop them into a dish of water, and if the small end comes up to the top they are fresh. The Hero of Manila is apparently a book written by Rossiter Johnson in 1899. We’re hoping to eventually get some of these newspapers framed. It’s kinda cool to to see history preserved in this way! Once we get the old walls down, we’ll be ready to start framing. We’ve come up with a great floor plan that will give this house a master bedroom, with a walk in closet, and five piece master bathroom. It will also have two more bedrooms and another full bathroom. Finally, we are going to add an attached two car garage.
